Day 183 - What Pleases Jesus Matters
Read: Psalm 141; Proverbs 6:12-15; Revelation 2; 2 Samuel 7-8
“Nevertheless I have a few things against you, because you allow that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess, to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols.”
‭‭Revelation‬ ‭2:20‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

I have the privilege to complete two modules of MBA course in Oxford University recently. What impressed me most is the history of this great prestigious University. John and Charles Wesley's prayer meetings held there laid the foundations of the Methodist Church today. The way of teaching is based on the Disputations which was started 600 years ago in the Divinity School where 2 Professors would present their cases to determine who would be more persuasive. Hence, every student In Oxford is expected weekly to prepare 2500 words of essay whereby the lecturer will debate with the students and challenge his or her essays one on one. Every college and room is filled with books. In fact, every year half a kilometre of books are added so much so some of the roads we travelled on there have underground tunnels of books. The ambience, the structure, design (my room has windows overlooking the sky) and the built-up of the whole buildings are designed for study, quiet meditation and serious research. The blackboard of Albert Einstein when he taught there was laminated, preserved and kept in the Museum.
Looking at today’s passage, we saw Jesus was not pleased at all that the church ALLOWED Jezebel to teach and seduce His servants. This means how important that we need to keep traditions and good practices of the ancient ways. If modern techniques and new people are introduced but compromised on the core of the Bible teachings, every effort must be made to DISALLOW such practices just as how Oxford preserves their traditions and their teaching methods, structure and even buildings. Let us uphold good traditions such as family reunion meals, baking or making certain cookies or family delicacies together etc. Let us be mindful of what will please Jesus and not what pleases people! https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC #pleaseGod #devotion#FamilyTraditions
