Day 115: Fear God
Read: Psalm 93; Proverbs 30:1-3; Ephesians 3; Numbers 19-20
““Take the rod; you and your brother Aaron gather the congregation together. Speak to the rock before their eyes, and it will yield its water; thus you shall bring water for them out of the rock, and give drink to the congregation and their animals.””
Numbers 20:8 NKJV
“Then Moses lifted his hand and struck the rock twice with his rod; and water came out abundantly, and the congregation and their animals drank.”
Numbers 20:11 NKJV
“Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.” This was the water of Meribah, because the children of Israel contended with the LORD, and He was hallowed among them.”
Numbers 20:12-13 NKJV
In law, there is a provision for self defense. The grounds for such provision amongst others is when one is provoked. Here, we see that Moses was provoked and he was angry and instead of speaking to the rock, he struck the rock twice with his rod. The consequences is that he was not allowed to enter the Promised Land. Personally, I viewed that this was a harsh "punishment" for Moses. Hence, we need to take heed that privileges come with responsibility- Moses was esteemed as a great leader and with such high prestige, he had a higher expectation, just as what Apostle Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:27, “..I discipline my body and bring it into subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified.” #devotion #fearGod #punishment #discipline #holiness #leadership https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC
