Day 187 - Have Fear of God
Read: Psalm 145; Proverbs 6:28-31; Revelation 6; 2 Samuel 15-16
2 Samuel 15 & 16
15:13 A messenger came and told David, “The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.”14 Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, “Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin on us and put the city to the sword.”
To me, as a parent, it is so sad to note that King David got to run for his life from his own son, Absalom. His own son schemed for 40 years (15:7) to topple his own father - could you believe that? This is our Bible - it will not hide - all the successes and failures of God's people are truthfully reported. Why did King David suffer this? It started with his own sin of adultery with Bathsheba (11:3) Even though God had forgiven him when he sincerely repented by recognising that he sinned against the Lord (12:13), King David needed to face the CONSEQUENCES of his sin and it was a severe consequences of having an adversity raised against him FROM HIS OWN household as decreed by God to him as stated in 2 Samuel 12:11. That was why Absalom, his own son toppled him. This will give us a real incident to show that our God is a just, righteous and holy God and His Kingdom cannot be shaken. Therefore, .. let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and Godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.
