Day 39: Psalm 19, Proverbs 22:13-15, Acts 19, Zechariah 7-8

Take Heed Of God's Instructions
“Thus says the Lord of hosts: ‘Execute true justice, Show mercy and compassion Everyone to his brother. Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, The alien or the poor. Let none of you plan evil in his heart against his brother.’....“But they refused to heed, shrugged their shoulders, and stopped their ears so that they could not hear.... “But I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they had not known. Thus the land became desolate after them, so that no one passed through or returned; for they made the pleasant land desolate.”Zechariah 7:9-10, 11, 14 NKJV

Chapters 7 and 8 of Zechariah deal with the hearts of the people toward their God.  Pursuant to the eight visions in Chapters 1-6, these two chapters' objective is to persuade the nation to restore its relationship with the Lord in a practical application, culminating with Lord Himself dwelling in the city (Zechariah 8:3). Some of the practical applications are: 1. Execute justice 2. Show mercy 3. Take care of widow, orphans, the poor and needy 4. Plan no evil against another brother such as accusing someone without any basis. When the people refused to heed, Zechariah warned them that they would be scattered and their land would become desolate (7:11,14) How often God is speaking to us and warning us that if we do not take heed, there are consequences. "The LORD is slow to anger, abounding in love and forgiving sin and rebellion. Yet he does not leave the guilty unpunished; he punishes the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation" (Numbers 14:18). This verse in Numbers 14:18 is the intercession that Moses made to God to seek for forgiveness of the Israelites when they refused to enter the Promised Land despite assurances from Joshua and Caleb. God forgave the people but they suffered the consequences of not entering Canaan land. Only Joshua and Caleb who had a different spirit and followed God fully, entered the Promised Land and their descendants inherited the land (Numbers 14:24). I am not sure about you but seeing this actual consequences that occured, I want to take heed of God's instructions and I plead to God to enable and empower me to do so. Whoever gives heed to instruction prospers,  and blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord (Proverbs 16:20). https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC (please click to view a visual)
