Day 36: Psalm 16, Proverbs 22:4-6, Acts 16, Zechariah 1-2
Return To God
Therefore say to them, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Return to Me,” says the Lord of hosts, “and I will return to you,” says the Lord of hosts.
Zechariah 1:3 NKJV
The book of Zechariah is not only historical and prophetical but also apocalyptic in genre. It was written after the return from exile in Babylon. The objective was to encourage those who had recently returned from the exile. Their faith in God was weak and they were not motivated to build the temple. Zechariah recorded his visions, encouraged the people to reinstate the priesthood, learn and conform to the religious laws that were forgotten during the 70-year exile. The Lord of hosts promised through Zechariah that if the people were to return to Him, He will return to them (1:3). Similarly, we may sometimes, go into exile of our own and may have forgotten our Lord. Also, we may be in exile while we are in a religious setting. How? It occurs when Christians handle and attend to matters in an unChristian manner. Take heed - we must return to God and do it His way, then only He will return to us. "God’s grace is not infinite. God is infinite, and God is gracious. We experience the grace of an infinite God, but grace is not infinite. God sets limits to His patience and forbearance. He warns us over and over again that someday the ax will fall and His judgment will be poured out.” ― R.C. Sproul, The Holiness of God. https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC (please click to view a visual)
