Day 146 - Wholly Follow the Lord
Read: Psalm 119:49-56; Proverbs 2:7-9; Titus 3; Joshua 13-14
“Nevertheless my brethren who went up with me made the heart of the people melt, but I wholly followed the LORD my God. So Moses swore on that day, saying, ‘Surely the land where your foot has trodden shall be your inheritance and your children’s forever, because you have wholly followed the LORD my God.’ And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said.” And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.”
Joshua 14:8-14 NKJV
The context of the passage above is that the children of Judah came to Joshua in Gilgal and Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite informed how Moses sent him from Kadesh Barnea to spy out the Promised Land. Caleb had wholly followed the Lord his God even though all the rest except Joshua had discouraged the rest of Israelites not to go up to the Promised Land. Caleb received his reward during his lifetime and the blessings were passed down to his generations up until today. This is a very good role model for us to follow, especially now when we are in End Times as said by Jesus in Matthew 24:12 that the love of many will grow cold ie. uncaring, unloving, worldly, selfish, making our own ways, worshipping nature, following worldly ideas and worshiping things of the world. The Greek translation is: the agape love of many people shall turn “physco”. Physcros and physco are both translated in Scripture as cold. Further research for a Greek definition of physco revealed the following: related to the soul, mind, also a study related to the body, nature, medicine or the physical world. So, the world around us will be discouraging us to wholly follow the Lord. Please resist that and be like Caleb who held on STRONG and his love for the LORD would never get cold! May the Lord help us. Amen. #devotion #commitment #OnFireForGod #focus https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC
