Day 40: Stop Giving Excuses, Start Embracing the Truth
“But to what shall I liken this generation? It is like children sitting in the marketplaces and calling to their companions, and saying: ‘We played the flute for you, And you did not dance; We mourned to you, And you did not lament.’ For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”
Matthew 11:16-19 NKJV

Jesus loves to use analogy to bring across a point. When He said this generation was as if children playing in the village square, He meant that grown up men and women nowadays could be liken to spoiled children who refused to play no matter what game was offered to them. This plain truth is that people are giving excuses after excuses for rejecting the Gospel, even if they are not consistent in their criticisms. No matter what was offered, people could find a fault in it. However, take note of Jesus' final sentence in this passage. The final verdict does not lie with the prejudicial and perverse statements but with the results. The Jews might have criticized John the Baptist but John had prepared the hearts of men to Jesus. The Jews might have criticized Jesus but in Christ alone, people find new life. Therefore, stop giving excuses and start embracing the truth. Edward Abbey, an American author and an advocate of environmental issues said, "Better a cruel truth than a comfortable delusion". https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC (please click to view a visual)
