Repay Our Parents

In Confucianism, filial piety is the important virtue and primary duty of respect, obedience, and care for one's parents and elderly family members. Some elderly chinese parents forbid their children to become Christians because they are afraid that once they are Christians, they will not be filial anymore. But, in 1 Timothy 5:4 says, "But if any widow has children or grandchildren, let them first learn to show piety at home and to repay their parents; for this is good and acceptable before God." Hence, let people know that Christianity emphasizes filial piety as well. In fact, we are commanded to honour our parents in the 10 Commandments (only commandment that comes with a promise of long life and that all will go well with us). Further, our dear Lord Jesus Himself emphasized this again in Matthew 15:4. Day 187 - Have Fear of God Read: Psalm 145; Proverbs 6:28-31; Revelation 6; 2 Samuel 15-16 2 Samuel 15 & 16 15:13 A messenger came and told David, “The hearts of the people of Israel are with Absalom.”14 Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, “Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin on us and put the city to the sword.” To me, as a parent, it is so sad to note that King David got to run for his life from his own son, Absalom. His own son schemed for 40 years (15:7) to topple his own father - could you believe that?
