Day 175 - Ask God First
Read: Psalm 133; Proverbs 5:13-15; 1 John 2; 1 Samuel 22-23
1 Samuel 22:3 From there David went to Mizpah in Moab and said to the king of Moab, “Would you let my father and mother come and stay with you until I learn what God will do for me?”
23:2 he inquired of the LORD, saying, “Shall I go and attack these Philistines?” The LORD answered him, “Go, attack the Philistines and save Keilah.”.....
4 Once again David inquired of the LORD, and the LORD answered him, “Go down to Keilah, for I am going to give the Philistines into your hand.”
This episode of King David's life sees another interesting aspect of his devotion to God. Before he did anything, he enquired of the Lord. Frankly, how many of us asked God first before we embarked on something? Once an opportunity comes, one will usually "rush" in to seize the so-called "opportunity". David Pawson, a well-known Bible teacher shared before of a family who asked him to counsel their daughter as she was suffering from depression. Upon asking by Mr Pawson as to what transpired just before her depression, the father said the whole family relocated as his company offered him promotion if he would be willing to head a branch in another country. He said he immediately accepted the offer without asking God first and neither did he consulted his wife nor his family members. The sad ending of this is that the daughter suffered depression and he was subsequently out of job as the branch was closed down. Oh! Dear Lord, help us to remember to seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, and all these things will be given to us as well (Matthew 6:33). Amen. https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC #opportunity #GodFirst #DecisionMaking #devotion
