Day 167 - Remember God's Faithfulness
Read: Psalm 125; Proverbs 4:16-18; 1 Peter 2; 1 Samuel 6-7
1 Samuel 7:10, 12 - ..that day the LORD thundered with loud thunder against the Philistines and threw them into such a panic that they were routed before the Israelites. ....Then, Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Shen. He named it Ebenezer, saying, "Thus far the LORD has helped us."
The background of the above incident is that the Philistines was about to attack the Israelites in Mizpah. When they heard about it, they said to Samuel, the prophet, "Do not stop crying out to the LORD our God for us that He may rescue us from the hand of the Philistines" (v8). God answered their prayers. Ebenezer means stone of help. From here, we learnt that we need to have something to KEEP REMINDING us of God's faithfulness to us. But, bear in mind that this is not to have an idol but something that will trigger our memory to God's faithfulness. A simple act of jotting down all thanksgiving incidences will be a great practice. We need to review the notebook and recall God's faithfulness to us. One of the greatest sins in our relationships with God is the sin of forgetfulness. Even St Peter exhorted us in 2 Peter 1:9, "...whoever does not have them (quality of Godliness) is nearsighted and blind, FORGETTING that they have been cleansed from their past sins." Lord, help us to remember. Amen. https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC #devotion #faithfulness #GodFaithfulness #remembrance
