Day 48: Jesus - The Great Revelation Of God

Then some of the scribes and Pharisees answered, saying, “Teacher, we want to see a sign from You.” But He answered and said to them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks after a sign, and no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah.  For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of the great fish, so will the Son of Man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.  The men of Nineveh will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, because they repented at the preaching of Jonah; and indeed a greater than Jonah is here.  The queen of the South will rise up in the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and indeed a greater than Solomon is here.

Initially, I was wondering as to why Jesus did not want to give a sign. Upon further meditation on the verses, it was the right thing to do. No matter how many signs were given, when one's heart was not right, one would find reason to reject In fact, Jesus further elaborated that He was the greater revelation as compared to Jonah and Solomon. If the people of Nineveh and the queen of the South repented with the revelation of the lesser light,  the Pharisees were condemned as they did not repent with the revelation from Jesus. How important then that we must repent as Jesus has revealed Himself to us!  When Christ came, the word spoken in Him, indeed, was the final word of God.  The Lord Jesus is the word of God in all its fullness.  Christ is the goal of all that Old Testament revelation.  It culminated in Him.  It is fulfilled in Him.  F.F. Bruce puts it this way:  “The story of divine revelation is a story of progression up to Christ.  But there is no progression beyond Him.” https://twitter.com/EstherOngHC (please click to view a visual)
