Day 182 - Fear God
Psalm 140; Proverbs 6:9-11; Revelation 1; 2 Samuel 5-6
2 Samuel 6:6-7
v6 - Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark of God because the oxen stumbled. 7 The LORD’s anger burned against Uzzah because of his irreverent act; therefore God struck him down, and he died there beside the ark of God.
Here, in this passage we can see how Uzzah was trying to "help" God by reaching out to take hold of the ark of God. How important that we do not "play" God. Do not think we can help God. God does not need help. It is our privilege that He allows us to be in partnership to serve Him. We need to revere God, just as it is stated in 1 Samuel 2:30 where the Lord says: 'Far be it from Me; for those who honor Me I will honor, and those who despise Me shall be lightly esteemed.' In 1 Samuel 15:22, the prophet Samuel said: “Does the LORD delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the LORD? To obey is better than sacrifice..." Strict instructions were given by God to Moses in Numbers 4:15 that only the Kohathites were to carry the ark of God BUT they must not touch the holy things or they would die. There’s an old saying, “familiarity breeds contempt,” We must take heed that God is holy. He is a majestic, powerful and an awesome God. Let us remember not to become too familiar with Him that we approach Him with an irreverent attitude. Let us approach Him with reverent and awe and to treat one another with respect and fear of God as our basic fundamental principle as we celebrate Malaysia Day today!
